Rendhelmorr Anicete’s Reflection
Fall 2022 - Spring 2023 Dance Generators Assistant & Photographer
From being a gerontology minor, I understand that the world is divided into various populations and it is obvious to see that there is separation between others and the elderly age group. Ageism still exists and I see how older populations can sometimes be disregarded. I have witnessed them become victims of stereotypes from my experiences at hospitals and even in regular, friendly neighborhoods. After becoming part of the Dance Generators Company Team, I was able to explore new ways on how to combat anti-ageism and how we can all strengthen the inclusivity amongst various ages. From being the company photographer, I have witnessed that people of all ages can collaborate with one another from the community engagements and performances of these beautiful people. They have taught me so much as I submerged myself into their intergenerational-connecting practices within a closer point of view. Using their common interest in dance, they have shown that this powerful art of movement can be used as a medium to tell stories, share emotions, emit imaginations, and uplift spirits. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity to have worked with the Dance Generators and know that I will continue to do my part in the fight against ageism moving forward.
